Welcome to the
LaBelle Downtown Revitalization Corporation
Self-Guided Walking Tour!
The tour concentrates on downtown LaBelle with a focus on the 50 years between 1880 and 1930. It is interactive with images, audio and video.
The Tour is self-guided so you can begin and end where you choose. You can also experience the Tour in parts. Enjoy part of the Tour in the morning and finish in the afternoon or see it over a couple of days. Your choice, your timetable. Depending on the pace of your journey, the complete tour will take about 3 to 3 1/2 hours.
The clickable "Places to See - Your Tour" takes you directly to the tour. Each location is numbered. You'll find the location on the Map. We have suggested links to enjoy at each location. Please feel free to make your own selections found under the links "History Tales," "People to Know" and "LaBelle Stories".
"LaBelle Minutes" offers short welcome videos from downtown businesses.
We ask that before you begin your tour you watch our introduction "LaBelle: With a Capital B" as well as "A Little Bit About Architecture in LaBelle".
Welcome to LaBelle!
A Little Bit About Architecture in LaBelle
This project is sponsored in part by the Department of State, Division of Historical Resources and the State of Florida.
On May 11, 1926, Henry Patterson, a 22 year old black man, was lynched in LaBelle.
The lynching and the associated events deserve a thoughtful, respectful, and sensitive examination and recounting. This walking tour is neither an appropriate context nor an adequate format to address it.
